Essay on The Right To Your Opinion

We have all herd someone in an argument say, "Well I have the right to my opinion." Heck, even I have used it. However, this saying is actually hindering our learning for not just us, but the next generation of people too. Arguing and giving up the "right" to our opinions can save our lives, our country, and secure the future for the next generation by helping us recognize any harmful ideas that might be wrong, building unity between the people, and getting to focus our energy on actually making other problems that we are facing.

The first way that giving up the "right" to our opinions can save us as a society is because it gets rid of any ideas that are damaging to us. If we argue with an intent to learn, and give up our right to believe what we want, then it really helps move society along. A huge example of this is inequality. People use to think (and some still do) that based on your gender or race that you were only good for certain things. Nonetheless, when people started actually listening and considered giving up their right to that opinion is when change started happening. Those people helped secure a better future for us and we can do the same for the next generation. When we argue, give up the right to our opinion, and get rid of those ideas, then we just keep moving along the path that our ancestors laid down for us.

The next way giving up the right to our opinion can help us is that it creates unity between the people. We've all had that moment when your chatting with someone and a common interest or belief comes up. Whether it's a favorite band, restaurant, or even school subject, it gives you something to connect and relate to. Well, once people do start arguing and give up the right to their opinion, more of the right ideas will become common and more people will be able to relate to each other. It forms a  unity and a literal common sense between everyone. An example of this is not being able to murder someone. Most people can unite under the fact that killing people is wrong. It's common sense like this that we need to develop as a society if we want to make the future of the next generation better then ours.

The final way that giving up our entitlement to our opinions can help everyone is that we can start to focus on other issues more. If a shared common sense/unity is found, people can use that to start solving other problems. Hypothetically speaking, if the problem of inequality is resolved, not as many people will have to focus on that problem and can help fix other ones. That would really help the next generation since they wouldn't have to worry about these problems anymore. Once we give up the right to our opinions so much more could be accomplished.

The paragraphs above explains how giving up our entitlement to our opinions can help us purge any damaging ideas, create and give people better common sense, and allows people to concentrate on other issues. Getting people to see that they don't have a right to their opinion without real reasons to back them up is critical to society. So I ask, what opinion are you holding on to for no real reason.
